Lost Art
I was reading this article on wired and I found it curiously interesting. I began to read what is involved with lock picking. So, searching around, I’ve updated my amazon.com wish list appropriately.
I read 1 Corinthians 9 this morning. This section discusses how you should support those who are spiritually serving you. What I found most curious was when Paul asks if he has the right to bring a Christian wife.
So many people today are saying, “I have the right to get married…I deserve to get married…I need to get married…” And I began to ask myself, “Do I live the way that Paul lived?” He gave up so much just so he can continue to preach the Gospel and do the work that God laid before him. He even says he had no choice because God trusted him.
Those words…”no choice”. They seem to indicate that he had no free will…but I think it means that Paul was so convinced of the power of God and the work before him, he was willing to give up everything…even the “right” to be married…the right to live in freedom…
He gave it all up just to continue preaching the Gospel.
I’m reminded of his letter to Phillipi. He says he’s in chains for the Gospel.
Lord, am I willing to give those things that I want just to do your work? I don’t think I am. Where can I find the faith to find your comfort? Jesus, draw me to you and increase my faith…for I am weak and easily swayed.
