I’ve gragimicated!

It was great to walk across that stage! I can’t believe how relieved I feel to finally be done with school!!

So now, I have a B.A. in enlgish!!! Yeah that’s right!

Like any graduation, the speeches were meaningless. And we could barely hear them where we were sitting…but still, here we are…

It’s really a great feeling!

This morning, I’m remembering something that was said to me in passing almost three years ago: “Be different from the world to show that you are not of the world.” I came to think of this as I overheard a gift that was given at a recent bridal shower.

Traditionally, when men are about to get married, his best man throws him a bachelor party where he gets one last night of single-hood. In this night, there is usually alcohol, strippers, hooting and all sort of gally-ho. I say, why don’t Christians do this? Or better question: why DO Christians do this?

I think Christians are aware of these things and often are naïve. If Christians continue to do the things that nonbelievers do, how do we differentiate ourselves?

Three years ago, that same sentence was preceded by what a bachelor party and a bridal shower should look like: A time of celebration of passing from one stage of life to the next, a time of affirmation and even encouragement where the bride and group are asked tough questions about how they know God has lead them. A time to encourage single men to get off from their butts and to make decisions for their wives. A time to encourage single women to really be patient, that it’s worth waiting.

Not a time to buy embarrassing gifts and just eat.

This will not be my bachelor party. In fact, I will not call it a bachelor party. It will be a bride-groom party. Where I ask my guys to release me to my bride-to-be.

“Rejoice with those who rejoice!!” –Romans 12
