“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
About two years ago, a friend of mine encouraged me to do a close reading of the Lord’s prayer. I read one word at a time, and just reflected on what each word meant, the power behind the word, and why that particular word was selected. It was powerful!
Yesterday, I did the same thing with the last commandment that Jesus gave to his disciples: The Great Commission. And I think I would have just read this and just thought “no big deal.” I found it really eye-opening because all the sudden, those three verses became really new to me.
The word that gave me the most shivers was “even.” In the last verse, Jesus tells us that we are to teach these new disciples to obey all the commands that Christ has given us. And then he reminds us that he is with us always…EVEN to the end of the age. Jesus really wanted to underline this.
It’s great that is always with us, but to go as far to say “even to the end of the age” would indicate that he is serious!! I found this so encouraging.
Jesus is with me…now…
