The power of faith

I’ve been going through the Old Testament lately and have been amazed by the faith of Jewish people.  I’m constantly humbled by the fact that these people had so much faith in God.

Today, I was reading 2 Chronicles 1:8-10 and it’s weird.  I’ve read this section before and heard sermons on it several times.  But it’s the first time I’ve actually caught the glimpse of Solomon’s humanity.

Solomon answered God, "You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, LORD God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

I saw this from the perspective of someone who felt like he didn’t feel qualified to lead the country.  Someone scared of failing…someone who wanted to do more than he knew he was able to.  So Solomon could have asked him for wealth or honor…but it would not have made him an effective leader.

Sometimes I wonder what it takes to have faith like that.
